We tested this on
our own business first.
Before FoundSpace existed we opened DeskSpace — and we ran a real comparison between print advertising and digital. Here's what happened, and what it taught us.
A real comparison,
on our own money.
Before FoundSpace existed, we opened DeskSpace — a coworking space on the beachfront in Mojácar. Same problem every business here has: nobody knew we were there.
So we tried both approaches properly, side by side.
We spent €165 a month on print advertising for six months. It brought us one client, who stayed two months.
Over those same six months we did the other thing as well. Claimed and optimised the Google Business Profile. Built the site for search — and for the AI engines that now answer people's questions before they ever reach a website. Posted to Facebook every single day.
That took us from zero followers to well over 500 active ones, and a long way past that in reach. People stop us in Antas because they recognise the car. Local businesses walk in off the beach because they've been seeing the posts for months. Second-home owners from the UK and Madrid find us through Google, Google's AI answers and Maps, before they've even landed.
Here's what that actually taught us, and it isn't that advertising doesn't work — we run ads for clients every month. It's that print reached plenty of people. Just not ours.
You can't tell a newspaper to show your ad to second-home owners who've just bought near Vera, or to someone who searched for a desk in Mojácar on Tuesday. You pay for everybody and hope the right person is somewhere in there. Facebook and Google let you pay for the right person on purpose.
€165 a month is roughly what a monthly retainer costs. Spent where your customers actually are, it's the difference between a business nobody has heard of and one people recognise before they've met us.
Two completely different routes to the same front door — and they meet at the same moment. Someone hears your name, or sees your post, and then checks you out online. What they find there decides whether you get the call. That's the whole job. It's what we do for clients now, because we know it works. We paid to find out.
"We paid to find out."
